What Kind of AGV Is the Most Reliable? Vehicle Navigation Technology Analysis
With the development of intelligent manufacturing, the intelligence of factories has become an inevitable trend. As an important tool for automated transportation and handling, Automated Guided Vehicles have been increasingly widely used in recent years. Many manufacturing and warehousing logistics enterprises consider using AGV carts, but they don’t know much about them, don’t know which type of automated guided vehicle product to choose, and then worry about various problems with AGVs. As one of the core technologies of AGVs, navigation guidance technology is undoubtedly the key to selection. Today, we will introduce 8 common AGV navigation methods in the market to give more users a basic understanding.
Magnetic Strip Navigation: Magnetic strip navigation is considered a very mature technology. It mainly obtains the position deviation of the vehicle itself relative to the target tracking path by measuring the magnetic field signal on the path, so as to realize the control and navigation of the vehicle. Magnetic strip navigation has high measurement accuracy and good repeatability. Magnetic navigation is not easily affected by changes in light, etc., and the magnetic sensing system has high reliability and robustness during operation. Once the magnetic strip is laid, the maintenance cost is very low, the service life is long, and it is relatively easy to add or change the path.
Advantages of Magnetic Strip Navigation: Simple on-site construction. Low cost, mature and reliable technology. No interference with sound and light. Obvious AGV operation route. Easy secondary route modification, low modification cost, and short modification cycle. Low technical requirements for construction personnel.
Disadvantages of Magnetic Strip Navigation: The magnetic strip is easy to damage; the overall aesthetics are reduced due to the magnetic strip laid on the ground. The magnetic strip cannot be continuous; because the Automated Guided Vehicle will run over the magnetic strip when turning, some magnetic strips will be cut off and not laid. The magnetic strip will attract metal substances, causing AGV equipment failures, etc. Other sensors are required to realize the positioning station function.
AGV FAQ
1.Can automated guided vehicle be connected to existing production line systems?
Sure – Most AGVs can interface with ERP, WMS and other systems to achieve automatic handling processes without the need for manual operation.
2.Can the AGV route be changed?
Can – This car model is guided by a magnetic stripe/QR code, just replace the magnetic stripe and QR code;
There is another navigation method: laser SLAM is more convenient, directly changing the route in the system without moving the ground.
3. Do I need someone to keep an eye on me all the time when using an automated guided vehicle ?
Not used in daily life – AGV will automatically run along the preset route and can also avoid obstacles on its own. But in case of equipment malfunctions or temporary route changes, someone needs to come and adjust it.
4.Our warehouse floor is a bit uneven, can we install automated guided vehicles?
Minor potholes (within 2cm) are not a problem, such as laser SLAM guided AGVs that can adapt; If the ground is particularly poor, simply level it down or choose an off-road AGV.
5.How much can automated guided vehicle carry?
Generally ranging from tens of kilograms to hundreds of tons – light ones can carry 50kg electronic component boxes, while heavy ones can transport 100 ton steel billets from steel mills.
6.How is AGV charged?
AGV has automatic detection of battery level. When there is a power shortage, it will charge itself according to the set program without the need for additional personnel intervention
